My name is Marika, I am eighteen years old, a lesbian, and currently living in Boise, Idaho. I will be graduating from high school in the spring of 2005; after that I hope to attend a college in Oregon or Illinois to pursue a career in Nursing. When I'm not doing homework for school, I enjoy volunteering at a.l.p.h.a. (Allies Linked for the Prevention of HIV and AIDS), where I am the assistant volunteer services coordinator. I'm also very into reading books of all types, writing stories and poetry, and I also have a strong passion for producing artwork. I'm interested in YouthResource, because helping queer youth is a very important issue to me. When I first being began with my sexuality, I didn't know where to look for answers. Those months that I spent searching were very dark and destructive for me. If I could help teens who have been or currently are in this current situation, it would make me feel that all the pain I went through was worthwhile. I think it is very important for teens to have helpful information at their fingertips, so they can make positive decisions. Assisting teens in this process is something I hold very near to my heart. I am interested in helping teens with the issues of coming out in school and to their families, because I feel these are the situations that I am most experienced in and have the most knowledge about. |
